Counting Study in G minor
This is a very easy counting etude for middle school concert band.
Every day at the beginning of band class, I write a few rhythms on the board, and each student writes them down and puts in the "downbeats & upbeats" and the counting. We then count it / sizzle it / clap it / play it / etc....
One class, a 7th grader asks me "Mr. Curley... What are these rhythms even for?". My teacher brain responded: "They're so we can learn how to count and play rhythms... (duh...)". But it got me thinking... Why not turn these rhythms into a short and simple etude so we can create music with the practicing we're doing.
I've included a rhythm sheet here, then each person in the band has part A & B on the actual sheet music.
I also included Concert G minor at the beginning of the piece to use this as another teaching moment.
have fun!
